Frequently Asked Questions:
Is the Law Forum only intended for
pre-law students in the School of Social Sciences?
No
― the Law Forum is open to students from all
majors at UC Irvine who have a strong interest in law and public
policy.
Is there a minimum
class standing required or recommended to join?
Students are
strongly encouraged to apply during the sophomore or junior
year. Freshmen who have completed the membership
prerequisites may also apply. Please note that students
may find it more challenging to complete all the program
requirements during the senior year; this will be taken into
account and discussed during the membership interview if
relevant.
Is my admission
guaranteed if I have completed all of the listed prerequisites?
Program admission is not guaranteed. The
Program Director retains discretion over admissions and may take
into account a variety of factors including, but not limited to,
the current number of members in the program and the applicant's
adaptability to working in team-based settings. The
Program Director also has discretion as to whether and when
individual or group interviews will be scheduled as part of the
admission process.
Must I complete all of
my course work in one year?
No
―
keep in mind that some required courses are only offered once
each year and enrollment priority may be offered based on class
standing.
Once I have joined
the Forum, how do I petition
to use a different course to satisfy Law Forum requirements?
Please contact the
PROGRAM DIRECTOR
to
petition for an elective course substitute. Prepare a brief
written statement explaining the law-related aspects of the
course in question, and submit that statement to the Director, along with a copy
of the course syllabus, via email or under the Director's office door.
When are certificates
awarded?
Certificates are awarded during the Spring quarter of each academic year.
What must I do to be
sure that I receive my certificate?
Students who have
completed their program requirements must submit a final
"certificate
request"
form to the Law Forum
Director by early May of the year that they intend to receive their
certificate.
