"It is very difficult to repeal a constitutional amendment, since three-quarters of the states must ratify any amendment to the Constitution. We cannot forget that about 35% of the country voted for Donald Trump, about 35% voted for Kamala Harris, and about 30% did not vote, so there does not seem to be a supermajority mandate to keep Trump for a longer time," analyzes Charles Anthony Smith, a political scientist at the University of California – Irvine. "Even if Trump tried to be elected vice president and the person elected as President resigned immediately after taking office — as suggested by some as a way for Trump to get a third term — I don't think it would work. In the current presidential line of succession, if someone is ineligible for the presidency, the line bypasses that person. Trump would be surpassed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, under current law," argues Smith.
