Anannya Bhuskat

Anannya Bhuskat, a UC Irvine second-year political science and economics double major, has received a Social Sciences Moore Scholarship for Community and Social Change. The $1,000 award supports students who demonstrate the most academic promise and potential to enact change and improve the community. Below, the outstanding Anteater from San Jose shares her academic journey and aspirations.

What interests you most about your two dual areas of focus as an undergrad at UCI?

I chose to study economics and political science because I have always been fascinated by how societies function—how policies generate economies and economic principles impact political decisions. UCI was of course appealing to me because of its strong academic programs, diverse population, and opportunities for research and practical application. Today, what interests me the most is researching the linkages between policy making and economic outcomes, particularly how policies impact justice, growth, and global development.

When do you plan to finish your degree and what are your plans thereafter?

I hope to finish both my degrees at the end of my third year, and plan on applying to law school while continuing to work at a law firm.

What activities have you gotten involved in as an Anteater?

Some activities that I am involved in on campus are Phi Alpha Delta (PAD), the Pre-Law Fraternity, ISC (the Indian Subcontinent Club), as well as ASUCI, Office of the Student Services Vice President.

Where can you most often be found on campus?

On campus you can find me at any of the coffee shops: Starbucks, Java City, or even Peets at UTC.

What’s your best memory thus far from your undergraduate experience at UCI?

My best memory at UCI has to be the events that the ISC club puts on. From just attending them as a first year to being able to plan them and be more involved, I have loved every second of it! Also, being able to join PAD and meeting some of the most inspiring and like-minded people who have now become some of my closest friends.
