How the LIFTED program opened my eyes and gave me hope

S Hoffman II, a UCI LIFTED graduate housed at the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility, writes, “As the first cohort of men to graduate from a UC bachelor’s program while incarcerated, we are prepared to prove to California’s Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and to state legislators that we are better because of the experience and that the growth of this program will ensure more individuals the chance to be better and do better. We are the evidence that education is a powerful and necessary tool in rehabilitative efforts.”
