Haro, a UCI LIFTED graduate housed at Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility writes,” I am an incarcerated individual at Richard James Donovan State Prison, Echo Facility. Also, I am a student of the first cohort of 25 students, who enrolled in the fall of 2022, at the University of California, Irvine. I, along with my colleagues, of Cohort 1, will become the first incarcerated students in California to earn a bachelor’s of arts degree from such a prestigious university, to whom we owe a debt of gratitude. … The importance of our connection to UCI LIFTED is filled with possibility. It is an iconic symbol of advocacy for bringing higher education into the hearts and minds of incarcerated people.”
