Immigration and crime: how to read the data and context so you are not deceived

… several experts consulted by Factchequeado agree that there is no causal relationship between immigration and an increase in crime rate. [UCI Distinguished] Professor [of sociology] Rubén Rumbaut mentioned various research studies that he conducted with other experts, including this one published in 2009, which found – similar to the research published in 2023 and mentioned at the beginning of this article – that the arrest rate of immigrant men is lower than that of those born in the United States. [UCI] Professor [of criminology, law and society] Charis Kubrin, who has dedicated her career to analyzing dozens of studies on immigration and crime in the United States between 1994 to 2014, told Factchequeado that almost all studies have shown that, generally speaking, “more immigration equals less crime.”
