- Global, multi-city conversation marking International Women’s Day highlights expertise of women leaders across industries, continents
From their trailblazing work that’s broken industry gender barriers to key leadership traits they’ve leaned on in times of crisis, UCI’s International Women’s Day panelists shared key lessons they’ve learned along the way at the 3rd Athena40 Global Conversation on Female Leadership. More than 300 virtual attendees tuned in to hear from the all-female Irvine panel co-hosted by UCI School of Social Sciences dean Bill Maurer and Oregon State University School of Public Policy director and sociology professor Catherine Bolzendahl. The event was part of a 10-city, multi-continental discussion aimed at spotlighting the role women play in shaping crisis response, a timely topic given the disproportionate economic and social impact the yearlong pandemic has had on women. UCI panelists included:
- Bernadette Boden-Albala, Founding Dean, Program in Public Health, UCI
- Julie Hill, Director, Anthem | Director, Lord Abbett Family of Funds | Director, UNYQ | Chair, Board of Trustees, University of California, Irvine
- Dr. Srey-Ram Kuy, MD, MHS, FACS, Practicing General Surgeon, Healthcare Executive & Quality Improvement Researcher, Baylor College of Medicine
- Karen Toliver, Executive Vice President, Creative, Sony Animation Pictures
- Mary Carlin Yates, Ambassador (ret.) US State Department
