- UCI bio sci and psychology alumnus Dr. O has been providing Anteaters with eye care for nearly 30 years
When Dr. Joseph Occhipinti (Dr. O), president and CEO of Orange County Optometric Group, was looking to set up his vision shop, keeping UC Irvine in his line of sight was a must. The eye doctor has called Orange County home since he was six months old, and UCI degrees in biology ’84 and psychology ’85 allowed him to stay local while getting his education. When he finished his doctor of optometry degree at Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton (now Ketchum University) in ’89, he started up his first clinic right here at home on the UCI campus in the Student Health Center. Nearly 30 years later, his office has moved a stone’s throw away to the University Town Center, just over Watson Bridge, with another location in Anaheim. Staffed primarily by UCI students and alumni, the Irvine-based University Optometric Center is a popular stop for students needing vision care with an Anteater flair.
