Two from social sciences receive Academic Senate awards

Two social sciences professors have been named recipients of UCI Academic Senate awards.
Jose Antonio Rodriguez-Lopez (pictured top), economics assistant professor, is the
2015-16 Distinguished Assistant Professor Award for Teaching recipient, recognizing
his outstanding contributions in the classroom. Jeffrey Barrett (pictured right),
logic & philosophy of science professor, is the Daniel G. Aldrich, Jr. Distinguished
University Service Award recipient, an honor which recognizes internationally renowned
scholars whose outstanding service has led to the betterment of large segments of
the UCI community.
Rodriguez-Lopez joined the UCI faculty in 2007. Hi research interests include international
trade theory and econometrics. He received a B.A. in economics from the Instituto
Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores in Monterrey, an M.A. in economics from El Colegio
de Mexico, an M.A. in statistics from the University of California, Berkeley, and
a Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, Berkeley. While at Berkeley,
Rodriguez-Lopez was both a Fulbright Fellow and a UC MEXUS Graduate Fellow. He teaches
courses on economic principles, applied econometrics and a graduate course on international
macroeconomics.
Barrett has been a member of the UCI faculty since 1992. From 2001-07, he chaired
the Department of Logic & Philosophy of Science, home to the world’s top-ranked philosophy
of mathematics graduate program. In 2009, he became editor-in-chief of Philosophy
of Science, the official journal of the Philosophy of Science Association. His research
focuses on quantum mechanics and the philosophies of science and physics. Barrett
earned his B.A. in physics at Brigham Young University and his M.A., MPhil. and Ph.D.
in philosophy at Columbia University.
