- Louis DeSipio, Chicano/Latino studies and political science professor, is quoted in The Arizona Republic September 5, 2014
From The Arizona Republic:
Louis DeSipio, a political science professor at the University of California, Irvine,
said he was struck by Obama's comment that he is considering providing some sort of
path to legal status for undocumented immigrants. That indicates Obama is considering
taking action that goes beyond just expanding his Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals
program, DeSipio said. That program allows undocumented immigrants brought to the
U.S. as minors to receive a two-year deferment from deportation, during which they
receive work permits. "That has never really been what the White House has tried to
do or what he has tried to do certainly in DACA," DeSipio said.
