"It's widening the divide on immigration, if that was possible," said Louis DeSipio,
a professor of political science and Chicano/Latino studies at the University of California,
Irvine. "Where immigration up until now has divided the right – the business right,
which supports a comprehensive bill, and the tea party right – this divides the left."
