Trekkies beam onto UCI campus to fulfill 'Promise'

On an ordinary Monday morning in November, more than a dozen UC Irvine faculty and
staff members beamed onto the campus dressed in “Star Trek” character costumes to
fulfill a promise. UC Irvine School of Social Sciences Dean Bill Maurer recently participated
in the University of California’s “Promise for Education” fundraising campaign that
invited community members to make a unique pledge in order to raise money for student
scholarships.
