From the OC Register:
One contentious aspect of immigration reform concerns the extent to which less-skilled
immigrants compete with less-skilled natives for jobs. Although research generally
finds that less-skilled immigrants scarcely undercut the employment or wages of less-skilled
native workers, public perception runs otherwise. Onion pickers in and around Vidalia,
Ga., provide a dramatic example…. Frank D. Bean is director of the Center for Research
on Immigration, Population and Public Policy at UC Irvine. Susan K. Brown is associate
professor of sociology at UC Irvine.
