- The Intel Science and Technology Center (ISTC) for Social Computing, co-led by anthropology professor Bill Maurer, is featured in the Orange County Register June 26, 2012
From the OC Register:
UC Irvine will receive $5 million over five years with another $7.5 million split
among four universities for the cross-campus formation of the Intel Science & Technology
Center for Social Computing. The center funded by Intel will be co-lead by UCI informatics
professor Paul Dourish, anthropology and law professor Bill Maurer and Scott Mainwaring
of Intel Labs. The researchers are looking at the interface between society and technology,
looking at things like the way digital technology makes its way into people's everyday
lives. There will be an emphasis of research each year, with the first year looking
at the "materialities of information," or the physical aspects of things like cloud
computing.
