The Human Economy Programme at the University of Pretoria in co-operation with the Johannesburg Institute for Advanced Study (JIAS) is organizing a Colloquium on 'Digital Finance in Africa's Future: Innovations and Implications. The event will take place in Johannesburg, South Africa, on 22-26 October 2018. The program will cover topics such as mobile money, digital payments, remittances, agent networks, mobile insurance, regulation, G2P payments, start-up capital and the blockchain.

The colloquium will be a high-profile event, attended by the CEOs of several African or Africa-based fin-tech companies and a number of academics from around the world, who have undertaken research on the topics listed in the attachment. South Africa's former Finance Minister Trevor Manuel has agreed to give the keynote address. IMTFI-affiliated researchers/board members will be presenting: Dr. Mesfin Fire Woldmariam, Prof Olufunmilayo Arewa, Dr. Sibel Kusimba, and Dr. Solène Morvant-Roux.

The opening event, as well as all of the sessions and discussions will be streamed live via the conference website and virtual participants will be able to submit their comments and questions for the discussion. The conference proceedings will receive media coverage and will lead to a publication in the form of an edited collection.
