The University of Washington's Digital Financial Services Research Group (DFSRG) is hosting its third Digital Financial Services (DFS) Workshop. Professor and IMTFI Director Bill Maurer will serve as keynote speaker with the talk, “Mind Your Ps and 2s: Provocations for Payments 10 years after M-Pesa”.

This is the third in a series of workshops hosted by DFSRG, with the first held in Seattle on October 4th, 2017 and the second held in Lahore on November 15th-16th, 2017.

The DFSRG focuses on developing technologies for people from resource constrained regions around the world to facilitate financial inclusion and alleviate poverty. More broadly, the DFSRG collaborates with social scientists and industry partners, including the recently established FinTech Center at Information Technology University in Lahore. Some current research highlights include an exploration of mobile money adoption and use by women in Pakistan, the implementation of digital agricultural directories to facilitate business transactions in Tanzania, and an evaluation of security within digital transactions.

The goal of these workshops is to bring together members of the DFS academic community with industry partners to develop an agenda for successful collaboration on research and the dissemination of new technologies.
