The national early education organization Jumpstart and the University of California, Irvine, will kick off the 13th annual Read for the Record celebration in Southern California by bringing a splash of color to children in Orange County with a special reading of award-winning children’s book, Maybe Something Beautiful, co-written by F. Isabel Campoy and Theresa Howell, and illustrated by Rafael López. This inspiring book is about neighbors coming together to create change and to make their community beautiful.

Renowned actor Esai Morales (Ozark, La Bamba), and actress Ivana de Maria (La Bella y la bestias) will lead the celebration, reading aloud, in English and in Spanish, to young children and families from the local community at the Heritage Museum of Orange County.

Jumpstart’s Read for the Record is the world’s largest shared reading experience — bringing together over 2 million people each year in classrooms, libraries, community centers, and homes across the United States and countries across the globe. This annual campaign was launched over a decade ago to highlight the importance of building early literacy and language skills for EVERY child, so that all children have the opportunity to enter kindergarten prepared to succeed.
