Parents spend more time with children now than they did 50 years ago

The study's findings shocked study co-author Judith Treas, UCI Chancellor’s Professor of sociology. “According to economic theory, higher wages should discourage well-educated parents from foregoing work to spend extra time with youngsters,” she said in a statement. … Treas said the trend might be due to “intensive parenting,” the idea that time spent with children is critical for development.
