Kamal Sadiq, political science associate professor, has been elected to a two-year term as co-president of the Migration and Citizenship section of the American Political Science Association.

“The section plays a vital role in encouraging cutting edge scholarship on the political, economic and legal challenges of migration globally,” he says. “I’m excited about the opportunity to bring together scholars whose work is increasingly significant to our policies and communities alike. Like the wave of Latin and Central American families arriving on the U.S. border, fleeing from violence in South America; the current refugee and migrant crisis in Europe forces both state and society to tackle hard questions regarding membership and inclusion of vulnerable communities.”

Sadiq is the author of Paper Citizens: How illegal Acquire Citizenship in Developing Countries. He specializes in research on citizenship and migration in the developing world. He recently concluded a two-year term (2013-15) as Chair of the Ethnicity, Nationalism and Migration section of the International Studies Association.

He shares the two-year (2015-17) co-presidency with Doris Provine, professor emerita, Arizona State University. Sadiq is replacing Rogers Smith, political science Distinguished Professor, University of Pennsylvania and member, American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
