Younger Cuban Americans still feel a strong commitment to democracy and other principles
passed on by their elders, said Anita Casavantes Bradford, assistant professor of
history and Chicano/Latino studies at UC Irvine. “Often, they feel very torn between
exploring their own heritage and maintaining a loyalty to their parents, respecting
what their parents lost,” she said.
