Obama laughs off politics of old on 'Between Two Ferns'
- March 12, 2014
- Matt Beckmann, political science professor, is quoted in the Orange County Register March 12, 2014
From the OC Register:
In an appearance on “Between Two Ferns,” the Funny or Die Web comedy that sends up
celebrity talk shows, President Obama plugged the Affordable Care Act, traded insults
with host Zach Galifianakis and took another shot at getting younger Americans to
sign up for health insurance…“In the old days…all you needed to do was go on one of
the major networks or do a prime-time address,” said Matthew Beckmann, an associate
professor of political science at UC Irvine. “Nowadays the networks are loath to give
presidents time because it cuts into their profits, but even when they do give it
people will flip to other channels. “So Obama is going to struggle to reach a broad
demographic anyway, but when you're trying to reach young people you can't just rely
on the standard ways,” he said.
