Many of you have probably heard the great news – our dean, Bill Maurer, met his Promise for Education fundraising goal last week, raising more than $5,000 for student scholarships!

As part of his promise, he and a number of others in the school agreed they would dress up in Star Trek gear for a day. Well, that day is rapidly approaching. Mark your calendars for Monday, November 18 when you can expect to see Captain Kirk, Spock, Gowron (Chancellor of the Klingon Empire), and others from the Star Trek crew on campus.

We would love for anyone who is interested to join in the fun and dress up for the day. While the Starship crew will be Trekked-out for the whole day, we’re doing a walk around Social Science Plaza at 11:45 a.m. to show off our school pride in reaching our promise. We’re also holding a reception in the SBSG lobby from noon-1:30 p.m. on the 18th where social sciences students, faculty and staff can come sign our massively over-sized communicator badge and pledge to do something to help others live long and prosper in 2014.
