Mustafa Akyol is a columnist for two Turkish newspapers, Hurriyet Daily News and Star. His articles have also appeared in Foreign Affairs, Newsweek, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, International Herald Tribune and many other journals and newspapers. He studied political science and history at the Bogazici University in Istanbul, where he still lives.

His latest book, Islam Without Extremes: A Muslim Case For Liberty, which was defined by the Financial Times as “a forthright and elegant Muslim defence of freedom,” was published by W.W. Norton in July 2011. The book was long-listed for the 2012 Lioner Gelber Prize, along with other titles by Henry Kissinger, Francis Fukuyama and Niall Ferguson.
