This panel will open a conference assessing the state of information available on the global private military and security industry.  This industry has emerged and boomed in the last 20 years. Despite its widespread use by both states and non-state actors, though, the behavior of these forces (as well as those who hire them) is still opaque.  The conference aims to lay the ground work for a coordinated information sharing and collection effort to provide systematic data about this industry to those researching it as well as those seeking to monitor and regulate it.

This event is co-sponsored by the UCI Center for Global Peace and Conflict Studies (CGPACS) and the UC Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation (IGCC).
